Bannerghatta Biological Park, The Park is popularly known as BBP, has been an integral part of Bannerghatta National Park and emerged out as an independent establishment during the year 2002.It is in order to meet the growing demand for eco-recreation, eco-tourism and conservation, an area of 545.00ha of forest from National Park was set aside to constitute as Biological Park originally and later extended to 731.88ha.Located 22 km away from Bangalore, the park is covered over a massive area of around 104.27 square km. This national park was established in the year 1971 and itself has a number of constitutions within its confines, which includes the country’s first butterfly park as well. Other attractions here are ten Reserve Forests of Anekal Range of the Bangalore Forest Division, an aquarium, a Zoo, Children’s park, Crocodile Farm, Snake Park, Prehistoric Animals’ Park, Jungle safari and a museum. Things to do at Bannerghatta National Park:

Zoo: Bannerghatta National Park’s Zoo is spread over 12 hectares and houses several wild animals such as King Cobra, Panthers, Crocodiles, Bears, Deer and birds.

Lion Safari: 19 Lions are housed in a 5-hectare area inside the Bannerghatta National Park and can be spotted during Lion Safari from close quarters.

Tiger Safari: The Park houses 33 tigers, including 7 white tigers. Tigers are maintained in three groups-while two groups rest in their respective enclosures, the third group is released in the reserve forest area for viewing by tourists.

Bear Safari: Bear safari has been established in an area of 18.00 Ha in the Ragihalli State Forest during 2002. The Safari area is provided with peripheral open moat. The forest area is planned to be planted additionally with varieties of fruits yielding trees to create natural habitat for bears.

Butterfly Park: Bannerghatta National Park has a dedicated butterfly park consisting of a butterfly garden which is a dedicated 7.5 acres, a butterfly conservatory, a museum, a research laboratory, and a curio shop. 48 species of butterflies have been spotted in the butterfly park.

Champakadhama Swamy Temple: A place of religious importance to many, this temple was built in the Dravidian style of architecture, prevalent in the Hoysala Age in history. The temple houses a shrine dedicated to Lord Narasimha/Vishnu, present here with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi.

Note: The fare differs on Saturday, Sunday and any government holidays.

Covid-19 Protocol:

  • To carry face masks, hand sanitizer, gloves, water bottle, snacks & lunch, umbrella and wear cap, comfortable shoes as you are required to walk about 2.7 Km.
  • Restaurant are operational as per government guidelines.
  • Hand Sanitizers are placed at entry gate and various places around the park.
  • All safari vehicles and battery operated vehicles will be sanitized after every trip.
  • Parking premises, standoff barriers and other common facilities will be disinfected regularly.

Tips for Visiting Park: When visiting the Bannerghatta Biological Park, there are a few things one should always keep in mind. Some of these tips are:

  • It is always recommended to reach the park before 2PM, especially on weekends, to avoid crowds and the non-availability of entry tickets.
  • It is advised to not try to feed any birds or wild animals, especially the ones that are kept in cages.
  • For visitors who have their own cars, it is recommended to reach Bannerghatta a little early and park your vehicles in the authorized parking premises of Bannerghatta.
  • Those who visit with little kids are advised to not leave their children alone and remain in the areas which are meant for visitors.
